11th International Yakult Symposium 2024
Advancing the scientific knowledge on gut microbiota
Yakult Europe is pleased to announce its 11th International Yakult Symposium that is set to take place on 10-11 October 2024, at the Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This year’s theme, ‘The gut, conductor of our health: putting the microbiota in the spotlight’, will highlight the critical role of gut and gut microbiota in overall health and well-being.
Decades of research have revealed the remarkable extent to which the gut microbiota influences and interacts with many areas of the body and a picture has emerged of the potential role of the gut microbiome’s impact on gut health, immune function, mineral absorption, metabolic balance, brain health and ageing.
Yakult’s 2-day conference brings together international scientists, experts and students to share knowledge and discuss the latest insights on these many different aspects of gut health. The symposium will feature keynote lectures, scientific sessions by renowned experts and a roundtable discussion, and is overseen by a diverse and international scientific committee led by Dr. Bruno Pot, Science Director at Yakult Europe.
The International Yakult Symposium is a significant event in the scientific community, reflecting Yakult’s dedication to advancing the global understanding of probiotics and their benefits. As a leader in probiotic research, Yakult organizes the International Yakult Symposium every 2 years and continues to contribute substantially to the international science base and fostering discussions that pave the way for future discoveries in gut health.
This year is particularly remarkable as the symposium is being held in Amsterdam, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Yakult’s’ presence in Europe. The company established its European footprint at a time when the significant role of intestinal microbiota was scarcely recognized. During its 30-year presence, Yakult profoundly impacted scientific research and public awareness, and significantly contributed to an increased understanding of the importance of gut health across the continent.
‘Probiotics play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our gut health, which contributes to our overall health and well-being. Yakult’s commitment to scientific research and innovation is rooted in the work of our founder, Dr. Minoru Shirota, a pioneer in the field of microbiology’, Yakult’s Dr. Bruno Pot remarks. ‘At our dedicated microbiology research facilities in Japan and in Europe we continue to enhance the knowledge on gut health, and I am very proud of Yakult’s contribution to the growing scientific knowledge base on the power of gut microbiota and probiotics.’
